German filmmaker Werner Herzog hails Kiarostami

German filmmaker Werner Herzog has hailed his fellow director late Abbas Kiarostami.

Herzog who is most known in the cinema history with his masterpieces ‘Aguirre’, ‘The Wrath of God’ and ‘Stroszek’, named his favourite Abbas Kiarostami movies.

He has also produced a number of documentaries such as ‘Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds’ which came out in 2020.

Commenting on Kiarostami's ‘Close-Up’, the German director described it as a wonderful experience and the greatest documentary on filmmaking he had ever seen.

He also mentioned that there are two Kiarostami films that he always recommends to people: “If you ever have the chance to see at least two Kiarostami films, one of them is 'Where is the Friend's House?' And the other one is ‘Close-Up’.

Abbas Kiarostami is known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, and graphic designer.

Kiarostami won many awards, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 for his feature ‘Taste of Cherry’.

The globally renowned Iranian director died at the age of 76 in 2016. After his demise, a good number of well-reputable film events paid tribute to the mega-director.
